MESSAGE FROM THE HELM

Welcome to the new Web site of the Downtown Sailing Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization, oriented around, and dedicated to, sailing. I am pleased to be the new Executive Director, and I look forward to working with the Board of Directors to produce continuing growth and improvement in our outreach programs, member services and waterfront facilities.

US Sailing is the national governing body of sailing. US Sailing recognizes the Downtown Sailing Center (DSC) as one of a limited number of Community Sailing Centers. We at DSC believe that everybody has a right to enjoy sailing and to have access to boats and to the water. It is often heard that the water belongs to us all. Arguably, yes, but access to that water is often - regrettably - a totally different situation.

For DSC members, we provide affordable access to sailboat racing and cruising, adult and juniors educational programs, and the associated social activities that sailors enjoy. And for those who might otherwise be denied the sailing lifestyle due to financial circumstance or physical disability, we make our boats and facilities available to all the people of the Baltimore metropolitan area through our growing package of (no cost to the participants) community outreach programs. These are staffed in part by our dedicated base of volunteers and financially supported by our generous donors and sponsors, to whom we are eternally grateful.

This is our way of assuring that anybody who wants to can enjoy the connection to the environment and the sense of empowerment, self-confidence, relaxation and general well-being that all sailors know results from the sailing lifestyle.
