The DSC is pleased to present the 2008 schedule and prices for the official ASA cruising and prices
for the official ASA cruising courses. The courses are taught by Captain Phil Schnering on his ketch,
the “Pintita.” This program began in 2005 in response to the many requests we received in prior years
from DSC members who wanted to enhance their cruising and big boat experience, but do so “in house.”
The success of last year’s ASA courses exceeded our expectations. Popularity was high, at times forcing
us to turn away applicants. And feedback from members who did take a course (or two!) was positive and
encouraging.
The ASA courses are a great way to “jump start” your knowledge of big boat cruising and obtain
credentials which will allow you to do your own bareboat charter.

FAQ
Are these prices reasonable?
We have carefully researched prices for courses of this type which are offered by most of the sailing
schools on the upper bay. We believe the DSC fees for these courses on the Pintita are the
MOST ECONOMICAL choice available.
Are the courses overnight?
Yes. Both ASA 103 and 105 run two days, one night. ASA 104 is three days, two nights.
And the combined ASA 103/104 combined lasts five days, four nights.
Do I need to bring food?
No. The Pintita is completely stocked, and food is provided at no additional cost.
If you have specific food allergies, please notify the DSC so Captain Phil can stock the food
pantry accordingly. It's also likely you'll go ashore one evening for dinner.
