RECREATIONAL SAILING

Baltimore's Inner Harbor is an ideal site for daysailing. Most summer afternoons the city generates its own breeze on the harbor while also protecting the water from waves or rough seas. For a little more wind, explore beyond Ft. McHenry to the Key Bridge. All memberships (except Basic) enjoy several weekly recreational sails scheduled from late April through the end of October.

Wednesday Night Membership Sail

This is the most popular weekly member event. The Membership Sail is an opportunity for skippers and crew to meet up and sail until dusk. Crews start forming on the docks at 5:30pm. DSC dockmasters help crew members and skippers form teams. The J/22s and Sonars fill first. Crew are then assigned to other boats including Impulses and a few cruisers. Access 10 dinghies are also available.

Membership Sails are a great way to enjoy a relaxing evening on the water. But.... relaxing doesn't mean lazy! You'll rotate through the various positions to gain experience and build your skills. And, skippers won't be helm hogs. Everyone will get a chance at the tiller. If the skipper doesn't ask you, you should be asking the skipper!

Sunday Membership Sail

This is a bi-monthly member event. As on Wednesday nights, DSC skippers and crew meet up and sail on select Sunday afternoons. Crews start forming on the docks at 12noon. Be on time! This is a very popular sail. Check the calendar for specific dates.

Tuesday Evening Impulse Racing

Every Tuesday night is set aside for fun racing on Impulse 21s and dinghies. Crews form at the docks beginning at 5:30pm (similar to the Wednesday night Open Sails) and races are run by skippers on the boats. It is a terrific chance to learn more about racing and have a great time!

Friday Night Fun Racing

Another night of Fun Racing! Friday night is set aside for fun racing on J/22s and Sonars. Crews begin forming on the docks at 5:30pm and races are run by skippers. Racing offers a tremendous way to improve your sailing skills, so why not make it fun?!

Boat Reservations

Skipper members can reserve a boat through the DSC's online boat reservation system. Bring your friends and family for a wonderful sail in the Inner Harbor on a Sunday afternoon or take them to lunch at the Bay Cafe. Being a skipper member gives you the freedom to sail whenever you want!

Friday Social

On the first or second Friday of each month from May-October, the DSC hosts a party with open sailing, food and drink. Members arrive on the docks starting around 5:30 and fill up the sailboats for a stress-busting cruise around the Inner Harbor followed by fine food and drink under the pavilion. Open to all DSC members, including Basic.
