Statement of Responsibility and Liability
No boat belonging to the Downtown Sailing Center may leave the dock without:
- At least one Recreational or Race Skipper aboard who has accepted
responsibilities as the Designated Skipper in charge, or,
- A certified U.S. Sailing Association Instructor aboard, or,
- A sailor on board who is deemed to be fully qualified or who has
accepted the responsibilities as Designated Skipper by the Executive Director
In keeping with maritime tradition and custom, the Designated Skipper in charge during
any sailing activity shall be responsible for the safety of the boat and all aboard.
The following resolution with respect to liability of Designated Skippers was approved
by the Board of Directors of the Downtown Sailing Center on February 6, 1995:
Be it resolved that with respect to any boat in his/her charge, a Designated Skipper shall
be responsible for:
- the first $500 of repair costs to a DSC boat and the first $1000 of repair costs
to a non-DSC boat resulting from any boating activity involving such boats, and
- all arrangements and logistics related to having any necessary repairs performed
with respect to any damage resulting from the use of such boat.
