COMMUNITY OUTREACH
It is said: "the water belongs to everyone." Arguably, yes; but access to the water is anything but
universal. Yacht club youth programs and intercollegiate sailing expose many youth to this sport. But
without access to the water, to boats and to sailing, young people in Baltimore could miss the opportunity
to build character, gain self-confidence, and glimpse a lifestyle that their family and financial
circumstances may not allow.
The DSC strives to break down all racial and socioeconomic barriers to sailing through our community
outreach programs. Thanks to our generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers, we are able to offer
sailing enrichment opportunities to non-profit groups and agencies in the Baltimore community at
significantly reduced rates.
Whether it be a few hours of recreational sailing, or a half-day of land-based
and on-the-water instruction, the DSC believes sailing teaches valuable life lessons. It is our
goal to make that gift truly accessible.
To find out whether your group qualifies for the community outreach program, please email
sailing@downtownsailing.org
, or call the DSC office: (410) 727.0722.
This is a very popular program at the DSC. Unfortunately, limited funding does require us to cap
the number of annual participants. We urge you to inquire early in the season about community sailing
opportunities.
