S.I.T PROGRAM

The Sailing Instructor Trainee program (S.I.T.) is a workforce development program with additional character-building components. This DSC program reaches out to at-risk high school children, pays them an entry level wage throughout an intensive summer program in which they learn to swim, to sail, then to teach sailing. Our message to these children is,“if you stay in school, apply yourselves and work hard, there is no limit to what you can accomplish." After first aid, leadership training, and coaching in presentation skills, successful graduates are given jobs as DSC sailing instructors the following summer with full pay. As instructors, the teenagers become mentors and role models to younger at-risk youth and often decide to pursue college.
