Downtown Sailing Center

ABOUT RACING

Welcome to the exciting world of racing! The Downtown Sailing Center has a fleet of 12 J/22's and 9 Sonar 23's racing this year. Every Thursday evening they can be seen competing on windward/leeward courses around dropped marks in the Canton turning basis. If you are looking for exciting one-design racing in Baltimore, this is the place!

Racing at the Bay Cafe Basin in Canton

Thursday night racing is our night to race other clubs and privately owned boats in the same one-design class. There are usually 20 boats on the line and the action is HOT! Spinnakers fly and boats fiercely compete for space at the rounding marks. The evening usually consists of two to three races of four to six windward/leeward legs around dropped buoys. The races take place at the Bay Cafe Basin on the Canton side of the harbor. Spectators are welcome!

Racing with Spinnaker

The DSC has instituted a "racing team" concept for the use of its boats. Sailors who sign up at the Race Crew level or higher (i.e. Impulse or J/22 skippers) can join a racing team led by two racing skippers. Each race team has its own boat which is assigned at the beginning of the season. Each race team maintains the boat and assigns crew to compete on Thursday nights. All members of each team will have equal opportunity to race during the season. Racing spots are available beginning in February each year.
