  • 11 May 2013
  • 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • BMI Pavilion

Registration

  • Register here if you usually only sail with friends and family.
  • Register here if you have never taken a skipper checkout.
  • Please register as a race skipper if you participate as a skipper in the Thursday Night Race Series.

Registration is closed

The purpose of the skipper checkout is to test and educate the DSC membership on the basic knowledge and skills a DSC skipper should possess. As policies change regarding the docks and equipment and as teaching methodologies improve, it is important for the DSC to give every member the equal opportunity to succeed and enjoy sailing in a safe manner.

The group skipper check out process will allow you to take care of your evaluation in a short amount of time. The checkout will consist of the following stations and one shore based assessment. Listed below are the five skill-assessment stations:

Departures Station
Points of Sail, Tacking and Gybing
Person Overboard Rescue (Quickstop Rescue)
Boat-handling Control: Backing out of Irons; Safety Position
Docking Station
The shore based assessment will cover rules of the road, rigging, de-rigging and general safety requirements for all vessels.

*Registration*

Please choose your arrival time based on your level of skipper experience. If you are a race skipper you must choose that level.

Rain/Weather Date: If the weather does not permit a successful check out the rain date will be on May 25th.

If you have any questions regarding the skipper checkout please email Stuart Proctor at stuart@downtownsailing.org
