"Beyond Intro" Sailing Course - Intermediate Skill Development - June 1 & 2, 9AM - 5PM

For those who have completed the Introduction to Sailing (12 hour) keelboat course, this course is the NEXT STEP!

In this course, you will hone your Figure-8 Rescue, improve your tiller extension usage, and develop a solid departing and docking methodology.

If you are new to the DSC, please contact Stuart via Stuart@downtownsailing.org to make sure you are placed in the appropriate class. Sailing is a lifetime sport and we want to make sure you have as much success as you possibly can.

THIS IS NOT AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE. SAILORS SHOULD BE PROFICIENT WITH MATERIAL COVERED IN "INTRO TO SAILING"

This course is Part 2 of a 3-Part US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification program. Successful completion of the "Intro to Sailing 12 hour course" is a prerequisite for the "Beyond Intro" Course. Consider taking the "Basic Keelboat" course in full if you have mixed sailing experience or are looking for a sailing certification.

Space is limited to 3 sailors per class so full payment is required to guarantee your spot in the course.

Topics include:

  •  Refinement of previously learned skills: points of sail; tiller extension usage; "Figure-8 Rescue"; recognizing puffs and lulls
  • Stopping in and backing-out-of "irons"
  • Departure and docking basics
  • Introduction to heaving-to
  • Introduction to the "Quick Stop Rescue"
