Lead Race Camp Instructor (Racing Camp Coach)

The Lead Race Camp Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality racing instruction and managing the Racing Camp program and staff.

Pay: $28-30 per hour, based on experience

Role Type: Seasonal, Full-time

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Start Date: June 15, 2026 (some candidates may start earlier)

Reports to: Seasonal Program Manager

Requirements

  • Competitive sailboat racing experience. 
  • Strong leadership and safety mindset. 
  • Excellent racing, sailing, and teaching skills. 
  • Ability to design lesson plans and drills. 
  • Experience working with children.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and further develop the DSC Racing Camp curriculum. 
  • Lead on-the-water drills and racing instruction. 
  • Manage Racing Camp instructors. 
  • Operate a powered safety boat. 
  • Coordinate with the Lead Camp Instructor on safety and weather decisions. 
  • Enact Emergency Action Plans and file incident reports as needed. 
  • Ensure compliance with ACA standards. 
  • Report daily to the Seasonal Program Manager. 
  • Work closely with the Camp Administrator.

Training Provided

  • One week (40 hours) mandatory staff training (June 15–19) 
  • US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification 
  • Maryland Safe Boater License 
  • First Aid, CPR, AED 
  • Emergency Action Plan training
