Description
This weather class will help any sailor to better understand the weather, whether your goal is a brief day sail or race, a cruise around the bay, or an extended offshore race or passage. It will be taught at an introductory level, and we think every sailor will learn something! If you feel unsure about how to check and interpret the weather to plan for your sail, this seminar is for you!
Topics will include: tides, currents, wind, waves, sources of weather information, weather planning prior to departure, weather once underway.
Realistic scenarios will be presented in an interactive format to spur discussion.
We invite everyone to complete our 2-question form ahead of time so that the presenter can consider your questions and the type of sailing the audience is interested in. The form is here.
The presenter is James “ Randy” Gray, an experienced sailor of over 23 years, with over 15,000 NM offshore. He is a current DSC Instructor, US Sailing Keelboat and Powerboat instructor, and a USCG 100 ton Master Captain offshore. He has sailed and navigated boats from J/22’s to 56m superyachts, applying the knowledge he will share in many real-world scenarios.
The class will be held in the Liberty Room, on the 3rd floor of the brick building along Key Highway. You'll receive an email on the day of the class with building entry instructions.
