Winter Work Party

  • 23 Feb 2013
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Meet at the picnic tables near the Docks
  • 13

Registration

  • Jolly Roger and Jazz have just returned from the factory with a hull-cleaning and a new bottom job! It's time to tip them over and give them a good waxing! Participants need to be comfortable using power tools and will be required to wear a dust mask, ear protection, and work clothing.
  • Jared and Friends have spent a lot of time prepping the rudders for the day fleet. There is still more to do, though. Help the DSC move toward ablative paint by donning a dust mask and ear protection and sanding the rudders down to the gel-coat so we can build them back up with a barrier coat and ablative antifouling paint.
  • Joker and Jammin' both took a bit of a rest last year. Take the time on Saturday to step their rigs and get everything tight and ship-shape!
  • Using an orbital sander and vacuum, this team of 2 will lightly sand the hull of the Boston Whaler 'Mary Anna'. Participants will need to wear a dust mask, eye protection, work suit, and must be comfortable using power tools.

Registration is closed
Last Saturday's Work Party was small but successful. The first round of boats are back and ready for action. Mary Anna is blocked and in in the process of being refurbished. The second pair of boats have been splashed with the new ablative paint and will need their rigs stepped and tuned.
Additionally, rudders still need sanding and painting; tillers need varnishing; hulls need compounding and waxing; and stickers need to be applied to each boat.

There is lots of work to be accomplished, so register today and move the fleet forward.

Some of the work will be done by paid staff, but we are counting on Volunteer efforts to accomplish specific tasks this winter. Lace up those boots, put on those gloves, don that respirator and let's get to work!

We know it's cold - but think about all the sailing ahead of us this spring! Warmer temps are just around the corner and we need to accomplish the prep work before we can enjoy the main course.

Don't forget to register online, and we'll see you on Saturday!
