Ages 10–16 · 2-Week Program

Intermediate Programming: From Crewmember to Skipper

Our Intermediate Program is an engaging two-week course designed to help campers progress from being capable crewmembers to confident, independent skippers. Campers will learn to sail a J/22 while receiving guidance from counselors in nearby coaching powerboats. The focus of this program is for Campers to work towards earning their US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification.

Week One: Building Skills with Onboard Instruction

During the first week, campers sail with an instructor onboard as they are first introduced to:

• Core skipper skills
• Heaving-to and other boat-handling fundamentals
• Introduction to Spinnakers

Week Two: Independent Sailing with Coach Support

In week two, campers apply their new knowledge by sailing independently, with coaches offering feedback from a nearby powerboat. The focus will be preparing for both written and practical components of the Basic Keelboat examination. Campers will practice:

• Upwind, Downwind, Cross-Wind Docking
• Reefing
• Person-In-Water (PIW) Recovery

Prerequisite

Campers must have successfully completed a beginner-level sailing course from a reputable sailing institution prior to enrolling in the Intermediate Program.
