Volunteer Registration: Access-Ability Saturday Event

Registration

  • You will lead the other Greeter/Escorts with the check-in of registered sailing participants and their guest, provide PFD's, and help arrange an escort for the participants down the dock to the assigned area or boat, and coordinate with the Lead Hoyer Operator and Dockside Assistance.
  • You will help check in registered sailing participants and guest, provide a PFD's, and escort them down the dock to the assigned area or boat.
  • You will be part of a team to rig the Hansa Access 303 dinghies (up to 8 boats) before participants arrive and derig after the event ends. You might also assist in helping sailors transfer or enter/exit the boats.
  • You will assist a skipper with providing instruction to sailors, and possibly even participate in a race or two! Some sailing experience is required (must be able to follow skipper instructions).
  • You might be providing sailing instruction (including "tiller time") to participants (up to 3), and possibly even participating in a race or 2!
  • You will be helping skippers and crew launch and dock the Sonars and Hansas.
  • You must be trained on the DSC's Hoyer lift to fill this role.
  • Assist the Lead in providing transfer assistance to Sailors. Training on the DSC's Hoyer lift is necessary.
  • Will require Power Boat experience. Will be responsible for power assisting any Sonar/Hansa back the the docks to keep on schedule. May be asked to drop marks in the water for the Hansa Race Team practice.

Schedule

  • 9:00 AM – Volunteer muster, setup, rigging, and launching of Hansa Access Dinghies; rig Sonars 
  • 9:45 AM – Participants arrive for check-in 
  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Sailing session 
  • By 1:00 PM – Event concludes 

Volunteer Roles

Volunteers support the program in a variety of essential positions, including:

  • Greeters / Escorts
    Assist with setup, participant check-in, and escorting sailors down the docks to their boats and/or their skipper/crew. 
  • Hansa 303 Rig & De-Rig Team
    Set up and secure the adaptive Hansa dinghies before and after sailing. 
  • Sonar Sailboat Skippers 
  • Sonar Sailboat Crew 
  • Safety Boat Operators
    Prior powerboat experience required.
  • Dockside Assistance
    Support with boat handling and participant transfers. 
  • Hoyer Lift Transfer Assistance
    Training required.
