Ever dreamed of owning or chartering your own cruising sailboat?
US Sailing's Basic Cruising Certification Course is a three-day intensive sailing excursion and class in which you will learn to responsibly skipper an crew an auxiliary powered cruising sailboat during daylight hours, within sight of land in moderate wind and sea conditions.

Participants will arrive at the DSC docks early the first morning of the class and depart aboard The Pintita, where Captain Phil Schnering will be your guide and instructor. Captain Phil has been chartering and teaching on the Pintita for years on the Chesapeake and his resume is one of the most extensive on the Bay.

Participants need to be current US Sailing Members and need to have successfully completed the US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification in order to qualify for the Basic Cruising Certification.

Fuel and Provisioning is included in the cost, but participants are expected to provide appropriate clothing and gear for the trip.
The cost for the course includes all study and testing materials; the cost does not include US Sailing Membership nor Basic Keelboat Certification. A participant may complete the Basic Keelboat Certification after taking the Basic Cruising Course if need be, and their certification will be retroactive.
